Pixels to Polys: Manifesto
What better place to discuss our plans for the blog than on the blog itself?
Here is a sort of start of the PtP Manifesto... the blog will be ever changing, and a sort of sum of what we all put into it, but I have some ideas for what I would like it to be.
-From the start, I think a realistic goal for us would be one post a day on the blog, between the three of us. More is better, and feel free to post often, several times a day, or back to back: but lets shoot for one post per day, minimum.
-The writing style should be casual, but not lazy, and if we’re not writing with voice (humor, sarcasm, earnestness and with our own styles) then I really don’t see what the point would be.
-The posts can be as long or short as possible... if it’s just one sentence, than it better be a good one. When it gets long we should make sure that it isn’t artificially long. No wasted sentences. Clean prose as Mr. Reed would say.
-We can do standard posts, but I think recurring articles/columns would be a cool way to write... for instance, I would like to do Top 5 lists... ex. Top 5 Game Narratives of the Year... maybe for the Top 5’s we could choose a topic and give eachother a day and do a post where we each make a Top 5 on the same topic... argue our points.
Other ideas:
-An ongoing Actor dictionary where we decide the defining roles for famous actors. ex. I will always think of Tom Cruise as Maverick, Anthony Hopkins as Hannibal, and Brad Pitt as Tyler Durdin... perhaps a weekly column would have us giving one actor, and explaining, or maybe 3 actors, we each choose one... something like that.
-We could do a column where we get in an AIM chat about a topic then post it to the board
-A links column... good sites, timely articles, etc
I hope you guys can come up with cool ideas too... lets share them, and write columns using each others ideas.
-Matt, you said you’re interested in retro games... a retro review column would be cool... where you play an old game on an emulator (er, or a legal way) and then write a review, or tell us that some legendary game actually sucks (I’m looking at you Zelda: Orcana of Time)
-Lets compliment each other's styles. I am a typical indie-art-house movie snob... perhaps Pat could counter my pretentiousness in movies by explaining to us why Star Wars is so good you can beat off to Hans Solo and not be considered gay. Maybe Matt wants to argue that Rocky IV or Teen Wolf is better than the Godfather... lets play to our strengths (sorry for pretending that your strengths are loving Teen Wolf and masturbating about Sci Fi classics)
-Oh, if you couldn’t tell the blog will be about multiple topics... mostly Video games... but also movies, books, pop culture, irreverent humor.
-Don’t worry that no one will read us for a long while... just keep posting... Arnold will probably read... and Dan... Parker won’t, but I don’t think he even knows how to read... the blog will probably suck for a long while as we try to find our style and niche... tell your friends, and we’ll find an audience if we keep it up.
Sorry this post is so long... please add your own ideas... I’m pumped.
Love,
Anthony
